Meet Our Team - Kristen Lupton

Over the summer we'd love to introduce our support staff to you, a vital part of the SCIDES team we could not work without. We're so grateful for our support staff, and Kristen Lupton is up next. If you call SCIDES during the summer, you'll probably be talking to her!

Thanks for taking the time, Kristen. Can you introduce yourself and tell us where you're from?

My name is Kristen Lupton, I live here in Merritt, and I’ve been all over the place, but I was born in Williams Lake.

How long have you been part of the team at SCIDES and what is your job here?

I have been with SCIDES since 2020 and I am a secretary. If you call in the summer, I am the one who would be helping you with your questions.

What’s your favourite aspect of being part of the SCIDES team?

We have a great staff, and I love seeing everyone work together to help people achieve their goals.

What’s your least favourite aspect of being part of the SCIDES team? 

I don’t recognize people when they come in person, even though I’ve talked to them for a long time online or over the phone.

What’s your best advice for students who want to figure out their career path and calling? 

Try a bit of everything! You may find a passion you’d never expect. Also, work hard, but don’t sweat it. Most people have 4 careers in their life, so don’t pin your whole being on a career title.

What’s your favourite book and why? 

Ooh, just one? That’s impossible! Patricia Briggs, Adrienne Young, Jayne Ann Krentz, Eileen Wilks, Ilona Andrews, Karen Chance, Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Mercedes Lackey, Alice Borchardt…..

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? 

Trust your gut. It might not make sense now, but it rarely steers you wrong. Also, be kind to everyone – including yourself. You never know what someone is going through.

What do you still want to learn? 

Full fluency in Spanish and German, and ASL. Working on expanding my operatic range.  Flamenco. Achieving my brown belt.

When you’re not busy supporting students and teachers at SCIDES, what do you enjoy doing? 

Reading, swimming, and cooking
