Govardhana Academy
Govardhana Academy, located in the Venables Valley, is a Hare Krishna community outside of the town of Ashcroft. This community has a school building located on their land in which the students from the area attend.
Their SCIDES teachers meet with the students face to face on a monthly basis to assess the students, observe and make recommendations to improve and individualize the learning of the students.
Teachers also arrange external learning experiences for them in Kamloops and Merritt (i.e. plays at the Sagebrush Theater, TRU Career Fair, meet your teacher day at SCIDES, FoodSafe Course, 4Cats Art Studio).
The community of Venables Valley, with SCIDES, have created a wonderful educational environment in which all of their students achieve great success in their academics and enjoy a varied program. The students take part in everything from making stained glass, private French lessons, chopping wood for the school, celebrations and holidays, community plays, cooking programs etc. as this is a community in which everybody works together to provide the best educational experiences for the children. These children benefit from a rich educational experience creating well rounded, intelligent, socially rounded children.
Govardhana Academy partnered up with SCIDES in 2013
Kelowna Actors Studio Inc.
Kelowna Actors Studio Inc. (KAS) was formed in May of 2003 to produce vibrant, exciting presentations of the world’s best loved Broadway productions; to present fun, challenging and enriching learning experiences for students of all ages; to become the premiere forerunner and prime example of a high quality theatre company and to enrich the cultural landscape of the Okanagan valley.
The studio located at 1379 Ellis Street (across from the Kelowna Public Library) offers an approximately 11,000 square feet of space divided into four main areas; 230-seat theatre including 91 dinner seats with full table service, mirrored rehearsal/dance studio, set and props construction/storage; kitchen, licensed bar and a general office area.
The education component, now under the Kelowna Actors Studio Academy Foundation, offers classes and camps in musical theatre, acting and improv which are extremely beneficial to social development and the best part is its just a ton of fun!
No other group has the reputation, track record and success stories. Many of their students have gone on to post secondary studies and careers in the arts (29 thus far). As well, many of their young performers end up in their mainstage productions.
KAS partnered up with SCIDES in 2014 to create an Academy at the high school level, so students could have a performing arts focused education. Students work at the Kelowna Actors Studio on both their SCIDES courses and take KASA theater lessons which are accredited as graduation electives and include IDS theater electives with KAS instructors (Dance, Music, Drama, Production).
